John Brown
Areas of Practice
John enjoys a thriving practice receiving instructions principally in the fields of crime and personal injury. He also receives instructions across the range of Chamber's common law work including tort, contract, public law / judicial review, licensing insolvency, property and housing.
Crime
Both defence and prosecution practice spanning the range of criminal offences including GBH, robbery, drugs, fraud and dishonesty offences. John is currently instructed as a junior in a large scale conspiracy resulting in the commercial production of cannabis worth £2.5 million and involving offences under the Serious Crime Act 2007.
John has enjoyed success pursuing legal arguments for defendants including those relating to disclosure and abuse of process. He also has valuable experience both prosecuting and defending in multi-handed matters, those involving young and vulnerable persons and in the Court of Appeal.
John is also frequently instructed to defend in road traffic cases, his list of satisfied clients having included a premiership footballer.
Personal Injury
Personal injury practice involving both advising, drafting and representing primarily Claimants in all aspects of personal injury law. John's experience as a trial advocate allows him to effectively represent the interests of his clients at all stages of the court process. He has experience of cases involving child claimants and is willing to undertake work on a CFA basis
Civil Law
Currently instructed by the Treasury Solicitors and working for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on an ongoing judicial review arising out of an allegation of attempted rape at the British Embassy in Baghdad.
John also receives instructions in a range of other civil actions including, contract, tort, insolvency, licensing, property and housing. This work involves advising, drafting and representing clients at all stages of the litigation process. The range of his civil practice has meant that he not only appears regularly in the County Courts but also in a range of other tribunals including the Leasehold Valuations Tribunal, Employment Tribunal and Companies Court.
