Launchpad Reading

Team 4KBW will be running in the Reading half marathon on 1st April 2012.

We are running for a charity called Launchpad Reading, which provides supported housing to disadvantaged and vulnerable people in Reading.  We appreciate that you may get many requests to dig deep but we’d be delighted if you’d support us and our chosen charity.

Practice Profile

I have been a tenant at 4, KBW for 16 years. I have a significant practice at all levels of serious crime both Prosecuting and Defending nationwide. I have particular expertise in fraud and sex offences. I also practise in public law matters, acting for Guardians and parents. I am experienced in all forms of special measures and the use of intermediaries in delicate cases.

I am Attorney-General’s A list Counsel and have recently acted as Leading Junior Counsel in a £60 million mobile phone intra-community Cheat conspiracy. I have also prosecuted for the Inland Revenue, the DTI and conducted many of British Telecom’s earliest “chipping” and line interception cases.

My defence practise covers all aspects of criminal offending, particularly those of a sexual or violent nature. My specialist experience encompasses money laundering, people trafficking and prostitution.

I am frequently instructed in cases involving novel and emerging areas of the law and have undertaken lengthy trials under the VHCC system.

  • R v Flitter T.L.R 2001:
    Court of Appeal: whether “reckless” rape should be specifically and separately charged.
  • R v Woolley & Others 2002-2007:
    Birmingham Crown/ Court of Appeal: Prosecuting as sole junior in HM Customs & Excise Carousel fraud & associated money laundering trials: largest successful prosecution at the time with £28miliion confiscation. VHCC case for Defence teams: 6 month trial, 5 Defendants all with QC and Junior.
  • R v Cheeseman: 2003-2007:
    Chichester Crown: Instructed alone by DTI on complex bankruptcy criminal prosecution against QC & Junior.
  • R v Gould 2004/2006:
    Winchester Crown: Defending with QC one of 8 in attempted murder. Client successfully appealed conviction. Re-trial - half time submissions resulted in ultimate acquittal. 45 day VHCC qualifying case.
  • R v Dimitrov 2005:
    Southwark Crown:
    first prosecution for CPS HQ under new people trafficking legislation.
  • R v Multani & Others 2006:
    Reading Crown: 5 handed kidnapping; sensitive cultural and disclosure issues aswell as PII. Instructed to prosecute alone against 10 Counsel.
  • R v Barney 2006:
    Reading Crown/Court of Appeal: Very sensitive rape prosecution.
  • R v Doyle & Others 2007:
    Oxford Crown: Junior to Prosecuting QC in 4 handed murder of victim with learning disabilities after grooming and bullying. Cut throat defences.
  • R v Bradley & Others 2007:
    Reading Crown: Multi-hander sexual abuse/incest trial involving three generations of one family. Prosecuting against 2 Counsel. VHCC case for Defence teams: 1 month trial.
  • R v Hancock & Others 2006-2007:
    Birmingham Crown: Drafted in as 1st Junior on carousel fraud for Revenue & Customs. Instructed to conduct trial without QC as Leading Junior, multi-handed conspiracy to cheat with loss of £60 million. VHCC for the Defence team, 7 week trial.
  • R v Malik 2007:
    Reading Crown: Attempted Murder prosecuting against 2 Counsel: honour attack in religious intolerance family dispute.
  • R v Holloway 2006-2007:
    Luton/Cambridge Crown: Defending professional ticket tout against multiple prosecutions for Ebay fraud and conspiracy to steal.
