AREAS OF PRACTICE:

Family Law:

Matrimonial Finance

Phil practises in all aspects of family finance proceedings, including applications pursuant to TOLATA 1996. He represents clients at all stages of proceedings, and has experience of effectively dealing with litigants in person, successfully securing costs against them where they have acted unreasonably.

Public Law

Phil has experience in public law children cases acting for parents at all stages of proceedings, including final hearing. Phil has experience of representing vulnerable clients and those that have difficulty giving instructions. Recent cases have included allegations of physical abuse of children and where the parents in conflict with one another. Phil also advises on merits in appeals against the making of final orders.

Private Law

Phil regularly acts in applications for Child Arrangement Orders, Prohibited Steps Orders and Specific Issue Orders. He has experience in complex cases involving allegations of domestic abuse, child abuse and cases in which a Guardian has been appointed. Recently Phil was successful in a multi-day fact finding hearing into child abuse.

International Child Abduction

Phil has represented clients at final hearings in proceedings issued under the Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court. He has successfully defended clients against allegations of abuse and secured findings against the abducting parent that they had been lying about their motivation for removal.

Criminal Law:

Phil’s criminal practice encompasses both defence and work and involves regular appearances in the Crown and Magistrates courts. He accepts instructions for both publicly funded and privates clients.

He frequently acts on behalf of clients charged with public disorder, violent, drug, sexual and financial offences. He also has experience of dealing with defendants with mental health issues.

Phil has successfully defended at trial clients in the Crown Court, most recently knife and offensive weapons, domestic violence and criminal damage. Additionally, he has successfully undertaken appeals to the Crown Court.

Immigration Law:

 Phil frequently appears before the First-Tier and Upper-Tier Tribunals and has experience in a wide range of immigration and asylum hearings. Phil has experience of representing vulnerable clients including unaccompanied asylum seeking children and victims of trafficking.

Phil has achieved successful outcomes for clients in numerous cases and is regularly instructed in cases involving asylum seekers from Afghanistan, Albania, Ethiopia, Iraq, Sudan and Turkey.

BACKGROUND

For a number of years before commencing pupillage, Phil worked for the Royal College of Nursing as an advocate representing nurses in a wide range of disciplinary, capability, grievance and sickness hearings.

Other Interests

In his spare time Phil enjoys travelling, CrossFit, music and undertaking pro bono work overseas. He has worked in Uganda for a prisons charity and also in Texas with a law firm which exclusively focused on death row cases.

Phil is a fluent Italian speaker and has a good understanding in a number of other languages including Farsi, Spanish and German.
