Phil welcomes instructions in all areas of practice including crime, family, immigration, personal injury and general civil.

AREAS OF PRACTICE:

Criminal Law:

Phil’s criminal practice involves regular appearances in the Magistrates’ and Crown courts on behalf of clients charged with public disorder, violent, sexual and financial offences. Most recently he has secured acquittals on charges of domestic violence, drug driving and dangerous driving. Phil also regularly defends in road traffic matters, including in special reasons and exceptional hardship hearings.

Family Law:

Phil accepts instructions in all private and public law family proceedings. He regularly appears in Family Law Act and private children matters and has secured successful outcomes at both fact finding hearings and final hearings. Phil also has experience representing clients in matrimonial finance proceedings.

Immigration Law:

Phil frequently appears before the First-Tier Tribunal and has experience in a wide range of immigration and asylum hearings. Phil has particular experience working with unaccompanied asylum seeking children.

Phil has been successful in securing bail for a number of detainees by making arguments in respect of length of time in detention, imminence of removal and has also obtained bail in principle pending suitable accommodation.

Personal Injury & General Civil:

Phil receives instructions in personal injury cases on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants. He often acts in road traffic cases and cases involving credit hire. He has experience of applications to strike out and has successfully made applications to recover costs over and above those normally available, including on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour.

Education Law:

Phil sits as a Clerk to the Independent Panel in school admission appeals.

BACKGROUND

For a number of years before commencing pupillage, Phil worked for the Royal College of Nursing as an advocate representing nurses in a wide range of disciplinary, capability, grievance and sickness hearings.

OTHER INTERESTS

In his spare time Phil enjoys travelling and undertaking pro bono work overseas. He has worked in Uganda for a prisons charity and also in Texas with a law firm which exclusively focused on death row cases.

Phil is a fluent Italian speaker and has a good understanding in a number of other languages including Farsi, Spanish and German.
