Areas of Practice

I am in the second six months of pupillage at 4 King’s Bench Walk, having commenced pupillage in October 2006. My areas of practice thus far are crime and general civil. My civil practice includes personal injury, landlord and tenant, social security and contract.

Prosecution Experience

I have prosecuted a range of offences in both the adult and youth magistrates courts including a variety of assaults, harassment, drugs, dishonesty, traffic and firearms offences. I have successfully dealt with various legal arguments for the Crown including bad character, special measures, section 78, disclosure, abuse of process and half-time submissions. Further experience has been gained in prosecuting for the probation service in the magistrates and crown court.

Defence Experience

I have successfully defended a number of clients in the magistrates court for offences including common assault, obstruction of a police officer and burglary among others. I am experienced at dealing with legal arguments and pre-trial matters on behalf of the defence and have represented both adults and youths.

Civil Law Experience

I have carried out a variety of work in the county courts including small claims trials, disposal hearings, infant settlements, charging orders and possession hearings. I have represented numerous clients in the Social Security Appeals tribunal and successfully appealed against incapacity, disability living allowance and housing benefit decisions. Furthermore, I have provided a number of advices on quantum and drafted a variety of civil pleadings.

Interests

I maintain a keen interest in music. I try to find time to play the guitar and attend live performances whenever possible. Though we may have fallen on hard times I still avidly follow Leeds United. I also enjoy playing 5 a-side football with other members Chambers. I have an interest in Latin American history and culture, cemented by a year’s volunteer work there in 2004-05, and continue to read Spanish literature to maintain my language skills.
