Rhian Wood (3rd Six Pupil)

Profile:

Rhian is currently undertaking a third six pupillage at Chambers having completed pupillage at a civil set on the Western Circuit. She welcomes instructions in the areas of general civil, personal injury, crime, and family.

Rhian read Classics and English at Oxford University before studying law at City University, London. She was called to the Bar in 2015 by Lincoln’s Inn as a Lord Denning Scholar and was given a Hardwicke Entrance Award. Prior to completing pupillage, Rhian worked as a paralegal for a Senior Junior barrister at a leading personal injury chambers in London specialising in high-value and complex catastrophic personal injury and clinical negligence work. She also provided pro bono representation as a member of the Free Representation Unit and advised at the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Personal Injury

Rhian represents and advises both Claimants and Defendants in all areas of personal injury work. She appears in court regularly for fast track trials, interlocutory applications, small claims and disposal hearings. She has experience dealing with cases involving credit hire and those in which fraud is alleged.

Rhian frequently accepts instructions to draft pleadings and advises across all aspects of personal injury including employer’s liability, public liability and holiday sickness claims. Due to her experience as a paralegal, Rhian has a wealth of experience in multi-track litigation and is proficient at drafting complex and high-value Schedules in personal injury, Fatal Accident and clinical negligence cases. She also developed an understanding of conducting and advising on military claims which she found particularly interesting.

Crime

Rhian accepts instructions in all areas of criminal law and regularly defends in the Magistrates’ Court and Youth Court on a variety of matters. She also has experience both prosecuting and defending in the Crown Court in appeals, sentences, bail applications and mentions. Rhian is a CPS Level 1 Prosecutor.

Rhian has extensive experience of defending driving matters including presenting special reasons and exceptional hardship arguments.

Family

Following pupillage at a civil set specialising in private and public family law, Rhian has represented clients in Children Act proceedings, at fact findings and has experience applying and resisting Non-Molestation Orders.

Interests and Hobbies

Outside of the law, Rhian is a keen sportswoman having rowed in the Oxford/Cambridge Boat Race and competed for a number of clubs on the Tideway. She continues to enjoy keeping fit and plays for a team in a mixed netball league. She is also a member of a Chamber Choir with whom she performs in concerts and on tour.
