Jyoti Wood, instructed pro-bono through Advocate, has represented the Respondent Mother throughout contentious Children Act Proceedings which concluded today.

At a fact-finding hearing in this matter Jyoti secured wide ranging findings against the Father including multiple findings of serious sexual abuse, a finding of coercive and controlling behaviour and findings of physical violence against the Mother in the presence of the children.

Today, at a Final hearing at Birmingham Family Court, these long running and acrimonious proceedings have concluded with an order that the Father have no direct contact with the children. The Court agreed with Jyoti’s submissions that the Father’s abusive conduct and his refusal to accept responsibility for his behaviour created an unmanageable risk of harm to the Mother and children.

The Judge described Jyoti’s impact and assistance as “tremendous” and her client has expressed huge relief and gratitude.

Advocate’s work ensures that vulnerable people are supported through court proceedings: in this case, a difference which the client says has shielded her from further traumatisation during the court process.
