Almost four years after the event, Janick Fielding and Gavin Holme secured unanimous acquittals for two RAF engineers who had been accused of inflicting a head wound upon an officer cadet from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst during a brawl at Pop World Nightclub, Guildford, in 2021.

It had been the prosecution case that the pair had taken revenge upon a cadet who had been asked by a lone female to ask them to stop harassing her.

Incisive cross-examination, however, revealed that the truth was that the girl, in fact a fiancé of one of the cadets, had only been pretending to need help from the officers in training, some of whom had been only too keen to step in.

After one of the engineers had remonstrated with the complainant over his behaviour, a fight had ensued, though it was established that others had likely caused the injury, possibly even one of the other officer cadets who may have wielded a bottle as he struck, drunkenly and recklessly, into the mass of bodies on the floor.

Janick also took the conduct and credibility of the investigating officers to pieces and was able to establish that they had consistently ignored evidence.

The trial ran for 1 week at Croydon Crown Court.
