After an 8 day trial at Reading Crown Court instructed by Gemma Cleaver from Reeds Solicitors. Clare secured not guilty verdicts for her client who was charged with rape and assault by penetration. A Christmas office party - held in the office - ended with consensual sexual activity between her client and the complainant although she claimed to have no memory of the entire evening or the sexual activity.

In a bizarre twist, the complainant had no recollection of any sexual activity but believed that something had happened due to the amount of bruising she discovered on her body the following day. The complainant insisted she did not consent, although she had no actual memory of the evening.

Clare's client gave a full account in his interview of consensual activity before the complainant had even given her VRI (video recorded interview). A series of potentially damning text messages from Clare's client following the party were placed before the jury as were the photographs of the complainant's bruises.

Clare's closing speech was a master class in pin-pointing proper inferences and factual conclusions which undoubtedly led the jury to return not guilty verdicts.
