Success for Kirsty Day last week in a three day trial at Reading Crown Court where her client was charged with ABH, assault and threatening to damage property.

On Christmas Day, Miss Day’s client had set fire to a van containing cleaning chemicals. The Defendant pleaded guilty to this. When the owner of the van and his friends went over to the Defendant to confront him about the fire, the Defendant grabbed a crowbar and struck one of the men to the neck with it. When the Defendant was taken to the ground and restrained, he spat at and bit the hand of one of the men. Ms Day’s client raised that he was acting in self-defence from the group.

Following a challenging trial with all three witnesses for the Prosecution giving evidence and a carefully pitched closing speech, the Jury unanimously acquitted Ms Day’s client of all counts on the indictment.
